Q: How will you protect furniture during the move?
A: Every piece of furniture will be properly protected. For interstate and longer-distance moves, wood furniture is pad-wrapped, upholstered pieces are shrink-wrapped with plastic and pad wrapped, and leather/suede items are wrapped with fine-finishing pads. For local moves, all furniture items are pad-wrapped. Plastic wrap for upholstered pieces and fine-finishing wrap for leather/suede is not always necessary when moving shorter distances.
Q: What is the easiest way to pack and move hanging clothes?
A: Wardrobe cartons are the best resource when moving clothes. And for local moves, All America Moving & Storage can provide a free wardrobe rental service (ask your consultant for details). These containers are a great way to move your hanging clothes so they do not get wrinkled.
Q: Do we have to disassemble furniture like beds and cribs before the move?
A: All America Moving & Storage can perform standard disassembly and reassembly services for beds, table legs, and other common household items. These services are normally part of our standard quotes. If you are moving locally and have been provided with an hourly estimate, you are welcome to perform this service yourself to reduce the time needed to complete your move (and thus the cost). Should your furniture require specialized attention (such as pier group headboards, large canopy beds, complex bunk bed sets, etc.), All America Moving & Storage maintains partnerships with the best Third Party Service providers in the industry, and we can arrange these services for you as part of the move plan and budget that we provide.
Q: Is it necessary to empty all dresser drawers?
A: Dresser drawers may remain full during the move as long as there are no liquids (perfume), fragile items (picture frames) or heavy items (books) in the drawers.
Q: Who is my point of contact if I have questions or concerns during the move?
A: We’re different than most moving companies whose sales reps pass clients onto a customer service team after the move is booked. Our representative works with you through the whole process: They are your single point of contact before, during and after the move. Your rep is a resource for all questions, and he or she will check in with you on moving day(s) by phone or in person, to make sure you are completely satisfied with our service.
Q: I reviewed my inventory list and some cartons are labeled PBO and others say CP. What does this mean?
A: PBO indicates a Packed By Owner box. CP is Carrier Packed, which means All America Moving & Storage packs the box for you. This designation is important because we do not always know the contents of PBO cartons, and Valuation coverage does not apply to those boxes in the same way as CP cartons.
Q: What is Valuation Coverage?
A: Valuation is transit coverage for your belongings provided by a moving company. But it is not insurance - it is the limit of mover's liability for loss of or damage to your goods while they are in your movers' custody.
Q: What are my Valuation Coverage options?
A: There are two options to choose from for Valuation Coverage:
Basic Coverage: Basic Coverage of $0.60 per pound per article is free of charge, but it is the bare minimum coverage option available. If an article is lost, destroyed or damaged while in your mover’s custody, your mover’s liability is limited to the cost to repair or replace the item in question OR the actual weight of the lost, destroyed or damaged article multiplied by $0.60 per pound per article – whichever is least. This is the basic level of liability and normally provides less coverage than what the original purchase price or current replacement cost of your household goods would be.
Maximum Value Protection: This option provides more coverage for your belongings, but there is cost to purchase this level of coverage, and the cost is based upon the total coverage purchased and which deductible option is selected (your AAMS representative can provide you with cost information). Under this coverage option, if an article is lost, destroyed or damaged while in the mover’s custody, your mover will either: 1) repair the article to restore it to its previous condition, or pay you for the cost of such repairs; or 2) replace the article with one of a similar kind and quality, or pay you for the cost of such a replacement – whichever is least.
Q: Does valuation coverage also include my property, such as the physical structure of my residence?
A: The valuation coverage only applies to your belongings – the items we load into the truck. All America Moving & Storage carries transportation industry recommended levels of property coverage, and no selection is required on your part for property coverage.
Q: What does a local move estimate involve?
A: A travel fee covers the general overhead costs of the move, including transportation of our crew to and from the move location. Move labor includes the time our crew works on your move. The clock starts when the crew arrives at your residence, and the clock ends when the move is complete at the destination. The estimated move labor charge is defined on your move estimate, but the actual charge that you pay will be calculated on the day of the move based on actual hours worked (rounded to the nearest 15-minute increment).
- A four-hour minimum applies to all local hourly moves (higher minimums may apply to weekend or holiday hourly moves).
- OT (Overtime) and DT (Double Time) rates apply to weekend and holiday moves.
